2. Objectives of the Course
2.1 In view of theology in general, that this careful study (exegesis) of the Synoptic Gospels, lead to a greater understanding of Christian faith and revelation—of who Jesus is as as revealed in these gospels.
2.2 In view of pastoral studies, that the insights on discipleship drawn from this study provide future leaders of the church—clergy, lay and religious—inspiration and guide in their current apostolate and pastoral work.
2.3 In view of Christian ethics (moral theology), that Jesus’ ethical teachings studied in their context deepen the student’s commitment to be a person for others.
2.4 In view of interreligious dialogue, that historical study of the different religious practices in the synoptic gospels bring about a deeper respect for Judaism.
2.5 In view of homiletics, that this study may help in the training for a better and more biblically based preaching.
2.6 In view hermeneutics, that learning different approaches of New Testament interpretation lead to a more tolerant, responsible, and charitable interpretation of bible.
